The NU Working Papers in Linguistics is an annual publication that celebrates the finest work that undergraduate students are doing in linguistics. Outstanding papers are nominated and vetted by the faculty, resulting in a selection of outstanding papers for inclusion each year. Prof. Aisulu Raspayeva (Kulbayeva), the current editor of the Working Papers, organizes and administers all areas of the papers, including the process of soliciting and reviewing papers and shepherding student authors through the process of revising their papers for publication.
The Working Papers is the brainchild of Prof. Shiti Malhotra, who proposed the creation of the series in 2016 and led its editorial efforts in its first years, followed by Prof. Rob Painter, who oversaw this initiative until 2023. Submissions, nominated by the faculty, undergo a rigorous selection process involving review and revision, and entries must demonstrate a clear contribution to furthering our understanding of the phenomenon of human language.
